Medical Student Rotations:

Welcome to Emergency Medicine at Creighton University School of Medicine – Phoenix. Our students train at Valleywise Health Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center and the safety-net hospital for Phoenix. We have the privilege of caring for an incredibly diverse community and for patients with a broad spectrum of illness, injury, and medical complexity—many of whom face significant barriers to accessing healthcare. If you are interested in safety-net medicine, caring for underserved populations, and learning how to deliver excellent emergency care in a resource-conscious environment, we think you will find a home here.

More than anything, we believe a sub-internship should feel like a sub-internship. We want you to take ownership of your patients from the moment you meet them through their ultimate disposition. You will evaluate your own patients, develop and execute a plan, reassess them, communicate with consultants and other members of the care team, and complete clinical documentation that becomes part of the medical record with attending attestation. You will work directly with our attending physicians, with teaching and guidance from our residents, while being given the independence to grow into the role of an emergency physician. Our goal is not simply for you to spend a month seeing what emergency medicine looks like. We want you to leave this rotation more prepared to be an emergency medicine resident!

Sub-Internship Information

-We are a level 1 trauma center, safety net hospital for Phoenix

-Gain county program experience and work directly with residents and attendings

-Participate in weekly didactics with our residents, as well as SIM days

-Resident mentors and monthly medical student socials 

Ultrasound Information:

-Join residents at weekly ultrasound didactics with fellowship trained attendings

-Perform ultrasounds with residents and ultrasound fellows in the emergency department

-Participate in weekly ultrasound review with faculty, fellows, and residents to improve your ultrasound technique

Rotation Information:

• All blocks are released at the same time, typically during the spring time. Usually between mid March and early April.

• Requirements include: copies of your board scores, a copy of your unofficial transcript, and a short letter about why you like to rotate at our program 
• Applications are accepted on a rolling basis 
• Communication will be via Clinician Nexus 
• For the sub-internship, you have the opportunity for an eSLOE
